Interpreter/ Translator Services

Services in other languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), may be provided to you at no charge. You may ask for help from your provider (Responsible Agency) or NARBHA to make sure:

  • Written information is either available in your language or can be translated so you can understand it;
  • We may provide service in your preferred language; and
  • If you are eligible for benefits under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), oral interpreter services are available at no cost to you.

Interpreter/ Translator Resources

 

Deaf & Hard of Hearing Resources

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may ask that your provider provide auxiliary aids or schedule a Sign Language Interpreter to meet your needs.  Your provider has to provide these services, but we ask that you request these services before arriving for your appointment so that we are able to make arrangements in advance for you.

Auxiliary aids include computer-aided transcriptions, written materials, assistive listening devices or systems, closed and open captioning, and other effective methods of making aurally delivered materials available to individuals with hearing loss.

Anti-Discrimination Rights

NARBHA and its contracted provider agencies must abide by the following referenced federal and state anti-discrimination laws when provided services to its members:

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. 2000, et seq, and its implementing regulations, provide that no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the bases of race, color, or national origin under any program or activity that receives federal financial assistance.  Language for Limited English Proficiency individuals can be a barrier to accessing important benefits or services, understanding and exercising important rights, complying with applicable responsibilities, or understanding other information provided by federally funded programs and activities.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in delivering contract services.

The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against persons who have a disability.  Providers are required to deliver services so that they are readily accessible to persons with a disability.  T/RBHAs and their subcontracted providers who employ less than fifteen persons and who cannot comply with the accessibility requirements without making significant changes to existing facilities may refer the person with a disability to other providers where the services are accessible.  A T/RBHA or its subcontracted provider who employs fifteen or more persons is required to designate at least one person to coordinate its efforts to comply with federal regulations that govern anti-discrimination laws.
