Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, & Mental Health (Fall 2010)
The Arizona Department of Health Services Division of Behavioral Health Services (ADHS/DBHS) is delighted to introduce quarterly health initiatives.Health is a dynamic state of being. In Behavioral Health, we have long ignored physical health. Holistic treatment requires integration of physical health with behavioral health in order to improve the general health of an individual.
Each quarter, ADHS/DBHS is partnering with the Tribal and Regional Behavioral Health Authorities (T/RBHAs) to introduce particular medical topics which impact consumers receiving behavioral health services.
For the quarter beginning October 1, 2010, our topic is "Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer & Mental Health". Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, regardless of race or ethnicity. In Arizona, about 3,400 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer affecting the female reproductive organs. In Arizona, about 215 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year - and this number is growing. Early detection can save a person's life for both of these cancers!
We are hoping that this health initiative will motivate individuals to seek consultation with medical and behavioral providers or simply to make changes in their lifestyle that will result in improved whole health.
